Andrea Steps Forward into NHS Career

Andrea came to WorkWorld in April 2014 as she had been unemployed for a number of years owing to ill health and needed to build her confidence before starting to apply for jobs. Andrea participated in the Step Out and Step Forward courses at WorkWorld to help support her back into employment.

These courses helped her to build her confidence, work with other people and develop a range of employability skills including: business awareness; team and communication skills; problem solving; ICT for employment and setting/achieving targets.

After a nervous start, Andrea settled into her course and had full attendance. Her timekeeping, attitude to work and her quality of work were excellent, and she began to realise that she had good skills and great potential to offer an employer which helped her to grow in confidence and assertiveness.

Inspired by her experience at WorkWorld, Andrea was encouraged to apply for the NHS Skills Academy programme which is a 14-week programme which offers unemployed adults a route way into employment with NHS in admin or healthcare. Andrea applied for the admin route way and was successful in securing a place on the programme which she started in August 2014.

Andrea is currently completing her work placement at The Women’s Hospital which she is really enjoying and has secured an interview for a permanent admin post at the hospital for which we wish her well.

Andrea says “attending the Workworld courses was the best step I could have taken. I have come such a long way in such a short space of time and cannot thank the WorkWorld team enough. I would thoroughly recommend these courses to anyone who is looking to change their life for the better.”
