During this one-year course, you will gain practical skills and experience to enable you to successfully launch your career in the industry.

Whilst exploring team sports and exercise for healthy living, you will develop your fitness levels, learn about exercise prescription and nutrition and enhance your coaching and leadership skills to help you excel in the field.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete

This course will take place at our Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Fitness testing
  • Exercise prescription
  • Sports performance
  • Sports nutrition

You will also undertake a work placement within a sports setting to enhance your skills and experience and boost your CV and if applicable, your university application.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of practical observations, written and oral questions, assignment work, short tests, work experience and workbooks.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. A GCSE in PE is desirable but not essential.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress on to the level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity.

Alternatively, you may decide to study a degree such as physiotherapy or exercise science at another university.
