This short course follows on from the New Opportunities course and is specifically designed to support 16-18 years olds to identify their next steps towards employment and/or Further Education. It will provide students with opportunities to develop core transferable skills such as teamwork and communication along with identifying and addressing individual barriers to learning.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various start dates throughout the year, and lasts for 24 weeks (2 terms).

What will I study?

During the course students will:

  • Explore personal strengths and barriers and develop skills that can be transferable in education and the workplace
  • Develop an understanding of the workplace including areas such as timekeeping, appearance, behaviours and developing communication skills.
  • Take part in teamwork activities
  • Develop formal maths and English skills – GCSE or Functional Skills

How is it assessed?

You will build a portfolio of work which shows what you have achieved throughout the course and you will also receive regular, informal reviews.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You don’t need any qualifications to join Directions, just a desire to make a positive change in your life.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have completed the course, you can progress on to a full-time course at level 1 or 2 at the college, or into employment.
