Working in our fast-paced commercial salon, you will improve the appearance of the hands and feet with basic manicure and pedicure techniques including Gel Polish, learn how to provide toning, cleansing and moisturising treatments and provide advice on makeup application and skin care. You will also gain the skills to complete waxing and eyebrow tint treatments.

You will also have the opportunity to explore your creativity with themed face painting, nail art and photographic makeup.

During this course you will work closely with charities in our local community, such as the Big Food Bank. We also take part in annual fundraisers for national charities such as Children in Need and Christmas Jumper Day.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Basic manicure
  • Basic pedicure
  • Skin care
  • Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
  • Basic makeup application
  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • The art of photographic makeup
  • Create a hair and beauty image
  • Salon reception duties
  • Nail art application
  • Themed face painting

Enrichment and work-related activities will also form part of this qualification.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed throughout the course by a combination of practical assessments, written assignments, end of module exams and portfolio building.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any formal qualifications, just passion and a commitment to your studies.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies
  • Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Makeup Studies
  • Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Barbering

Additional Information

As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
