Skills Show inspires hundreds of budding healthcare professionals
March 30, 2022
During British Science Week, we hosted our Healthcare Science Skills Show, bringing together healthcare professionals, industry experts and universities to inspire school and sixth form students from across the region.
More than 150 students from schools across the region including Lord Derby Academy, Saint Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School (Ashton), St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School and De La Salle School attended the event at the Knowsley Community College Main Campus, where they received a first-hand insight into the healthcare and science sector and the many career opportunities available in the industry.
Organisations including St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, Medical Mavericks, Positively You, Axess Sexual Health, Edge Hill University, the North West Ambulance Service, University of Liverpool Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Lipology and many more were on hand to offer advice and information and inspire children with interactive activities.
The students had the opportunity to take part in a number of interactive events and activities throughout the day, including workshops with Positively You and practising taking fake blood, keyhole surgery training and ultrasound machines with Medical Mavericks.
Positively You hosted an important workshop with magician Matt Cope about resilience and mental health, equipping students with the skills needed to become more resilient to setbacks and confidence to reframe negative experiences and use them for growth.
The event proved to be a great success, with students leaving with a greater understanding of the range of career opportunities in these ever-growing sectors.
