Health and Wellbeing Event 2018

In support of our annual Student Health and Wellbeing event, we welcomed organisations from across Knowsley and Liverpool to help raise awareness around mental health, and to show our students what help and support is available.

The event had a great turn out and saw over 20 exhibitors in attendance, who were all on hand to offer first-hand advice and guidance to students.

Amongst those who attended was former rugby league referee Ian Smith, who is a mentor for the Rugby League mental health charity, State of Mind. Ian spoke of promoting positive mental health in the sporting community and how it can affect all, including sportsmen, women and fans.

He helped raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health and wellbeing and outlined the underlying symptoms that we can all watch out for. Ian went on to discuss his own mental health struggles in and out of professional rugby and how he overcame these issues.

We also had the Eden Bus on campus providing students with a mobile youth centre, complete with on board Karaoke, Climbing wall and games consoles.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing Manager, Jeanine Williams, commented: “Our Annual Student Health and Wellbeing event is a great way to raise awareness to students and this year we wanted to focus it around mental health. We have links with several agencies who support us in our mission to make students aware of what services and help is out there.”
