Hairdressing students ace assessments as commercial salon reopens

Our 16-18 Level 2 Hairdressing students completed their Assessment Day today at our Stockbridge Lane campus. This intensive session assessed the students on a range of course areas, including health and safety, shampoo and conditioning and the art of dressing.

The students completed deep conditioning and straight blow drying treatments for clients, and were assessed on their skills and techniques as well as their client consultation. The College’s commercial salon is now back open after Covid restrictions forced it to close, a day that has been greatly anticipated by students and tutors alike. Now that clients have returned to the salon, students have been able to gain valuable practical experience.

This week’s assessment session is one of 36 assessments students must complete throughout the academic year, along with 400 placement hours. Students dedicate at least one day per week on their placements, helping them to build rapport with clients, settle into a real working environment and further hone the skills they have learned on their course.

Coupled with their placement, the hands-on experience the students are gaining at the commercial salon is sure to help them perfect their techniques and boost their confidence as hairdressing specialists.

Well done to all our talented students; another assessment is complete, and they are one step closer to achieving their Level 2 qualification!
