College Music Students launch debut EP from their own record label

Extended Diploma Music Students from Knowlsey Community College are set to mark the release of both their very own record label, 115 Records, and debut EP, with an action packed gig on the 1st of April.

Taking place at the College’s Performing Arts Theatre, the gig will feature artists from across KCC’s music department, ranging in genres from Pop to Rock. The gig will also showcase the 3 exclusive tracks available as an EP; ‘Raindrops on my Glasses’ by Lauren Bewley, ‘Mean to Me’ by Shaun Hough and ‘Nicotine’ by Hometown.

The launch of the record label follows an ongoing commitment of the college to provide real vocational experience for music students who are about to enter the industry.

Amanda Skevignton, Head of Faculty for Music at Knowsley Community College, explained; ‘The aim of the creation of 115 Records was to give a wide range of experience to our students; from the actual recording and playing, to producing and editing, and finally marketing and promoting.’

She continues; ‘With the industry seeing smaller independent record labels breaking big artists all the time, it was important that we gave the students exposure to all the different components that are required to running a successful record label.’

The launch of the label didn’t just provide industry exposure to music students; KCC’s media and art students have been involved in designing graphics for the brand identity of the label, after being briefed in on the job by the 115 Records team.
