College celebrates UK Parliament Week with visit from local MP Sir George Howarth

As part of UK Parliament Week 2023, students from Knowsley Community Colleges’ Inclusive Learning Department received a visit from Knowsley MP, Sir George Howarth.

George attended the College alongside Gary Hart, from UK Parliament Education, for an insightful conversation about parliament and his experience as MP for Knowsley.
The students had the opportunity to ask George questions and talk about local and national political issues before Gary delivered a session on Parliament and how voting works.

Deputy Head of School for Inclusive Learning, Denise, organised the visit to coincide with a week of activities, including watching a live session of parliament, creating word-clouds of what they felt about parliament and politicians, and quizzes on what kind of jobs roles they could potentially do behind the scenes at parliament.

Denise said: “Parliament Week was a great opportunity to educate the students about parliament and what it does. The students have loved getting involved in all the activities and it was great to finish the week with a visit from George and Gary. Their session was really engaging and helped the students to understand the role of a local MP and how they will play their part as voters”.
