A Sporting Start to 2016

Staff and students at Knowsley Community College have been starting the year as they mean to go on, with some exciting news about sporting successes!

The KCC football team are currently top of the league for the Merseyside Schools and Colleges football league. The team train of a Monday evening 4-5pm in the Sports Hall at Roby, and the team is open to all students from across the College – it’s never too late to get involved!

And speaking of footballing success, you might remember that last term our disability football team took part in their very first tournament. We’re thrilled to announce that they’ve now been promoted in to the premier league of the event! The team now face a new set of matches throughout the beginning of the year, it’d be great to see people at the games to support the team’s achievements!

Meanwhile, the end of 2015 proved to be just as busy for our staff and students.  In an exciting move, Knowsley Community College became the first college in Merseyside to host Glow Sports events.  Unusual but addictive, Glow Sports uses UV light to play glow in the dark sports, leading to huge amounts of fun and a real educational benefit – our Supported Learning team successfully took advantage of the sport’s sensory nature to engage their students in sports activities.

The last week of term also saw the Sport England Girls Festival take place, with our female students from a range of courses attending to take part in activities such as yoga, boxercise, Zumba, clubbercise and more. The girls ultimately chose boxercise as their favourite session as the day, and Knowsley Community College will soon be offering boxercise sessions – watch this space!

Last but not least, who could forget the KCC Santa Dash?  Our very first one took place before Christmas, with staff and students from a range of departments running a circuit around Roby dressed not only as Santa, but characters as varied as minions! They raised over £100 to help the victims of the Cumbria floods.  Congratulations to all!

If you’d like to get involved in sports activities at KCC in 2016, there are many ways to do so.

The College gym at the Roby Campus is FREE to both staff and students, with a gym instructor/personal trainer available at all sessions!  Opening times are 4-6pm every weekday, with Wednesday opening from 12-6pm.
