This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has flexible start dates throughout the year, and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

The Certificate comprises of 3 mandatory units (15 credits):

  • Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment This unit is to assess the knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of assessment.
  • Unit 2: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. The aim of this unit is to assess performance in carrying out assessments of occupational competence in a work environment.
  • Unit 3: Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding. The aim of this unit is to assess performance of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside of the work environment.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through an observation of you assessing a candidate within your assessment area. You will also be evaluated on the evaluation a portfolio of evidence generated by using a range of assessment methods. You will be offered regular tutorials and guidance on the assessment process and how to build your portfolio of evidence.

Assessment will take place in workplace; an assessor from the College will be assigned and assessments will take place in the workplace to minimise disruption.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You will have a professional qualification and/or have demonstrated occupational competence within the vocational area you intend to assess in. You must have access to assessing at least two candidates working towards standards in your area of assessment and be part of an assessment programme team within your area of expertise.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £811. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. An Advanced Learner Loan enables you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may choose to progress on to the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice qualification.
