This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is suitable for adults at the start of their career or for employed adults who want to professionally progress.

The course is designed to help you advance your career in the adult health and social care sector and will provide the skills, knowledge and experience needed to work successfully within a healthcare setting.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and will take one year to complete.

Attendance at College is not required, as the qualification is delivered within the workplace. You will be assigned a tutor/assessor at the beginning of the course, who will work with you throughout the programme.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover:

  • Safeguarding
  • Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Communication in a care setting
  • Duty of care
  • Handle information in care settings
  • Personal development in care settings
  • Equality and inclusion in a care setting
  • Health, safety and wellbeing in a care setting
  • Implement person-centred approaches in care settings

The above are mandatory units. In addition to this, you will also choose up to an additional 10 optional units.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through written assignments, reports, and direct observation of your work practice.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any formal qualifications, however, you must be employed in the health and social care sector, within a senior or team leader role.

What are the course fees?

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. An Advanced Learner Loan enables you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.
