This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is specifically designed for those who already work within health and social care, such as Assistants, Leaders, Deputy Managers or Managers, who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level and are looking to pursue career progression.

Students can choose between two pathways, the health and social care route or the children and young people’s services route.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and will take two years to complete.

Attendance at College is not required, as the qualification is delivered within the workplace. You will be assigned a tutor/assessor at the beginning of the course, who will work with you throughout the programme.

What will I study?

You will study a number of mandatory units and optional units chosen specifically to meet your job role and settings needs. Typical units covered include:

  • The assessment of individual needs
  • Implementation of equality and diversity, safeguarding and health and safety procedures
  • Facilitating change within your chosen setting
  • Induction and appraisal process
  • Planning and review of care programmes
  • Procurement and tendering
  • Risk management
  • Effective governance
  • Domiciliary care management

How is it assessed?

Assessment for this course can be by observation, witness testimony or examination of your work portfolio.

The majority of assessment will be work-based, using independent research, study and real experiences.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

This qualification is required for Managers of adult residential and domiciliary services or children’s homes.

The Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services can also help you to develop your skills and experience in roles such as:

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £4,670.

If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn’t dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don’t start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year. There are also a number of payment options including an interest-free payment plan with a monthly direct debit payment.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This qualification will be the accepted qualification for registration and regulation where appropriate and can demonstrate continuing professional development.
