You’ll create intricate makeup and hair designs, learn how to fake bruises, cuts and scratches for TV and film, and how to apply makeup for camera.
This course is suitable for those who wish to develop the practical skills required to launch a career as a professional makeup and hair artist within the media industry.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend college two days a week.
This course will take place at our Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.
What will I study?
During this course, you will cover the following units:
- The art of photographic makeup
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- Apply makeup
- Instruct on makeup application
- Provide nail art
- Body art design
- Shape and colour eyebrows
You’ll create intricate makeup and hair designs, learn how to fake bruises, cuts and scratches for TV and film, and how to apply makeup for camera. You’ll even have the opportunity to explore nail art and body art design.
How is it assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the course by a combination of practical assessments, written assignments, end of module exams and portfolio building.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
There are no formal qualifications required for this programme, however, a keen interest in this industry would be beneficial.
What are the course fees?

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
Once you have completed this course, you will be able to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Treatments.
Alternatively, you may want to gain employment as a Makeup Consultant in a variety of settings, a Sales Representative or become self-employed and grow your own business.
As part of this programme you are required to wear a uniform. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from a recommended supplier. You may be eligible for financial support to cover these costs.
