Q & A with Mark Pearson

Why did you choose KCC?

It was the local college and it was offering an NVQ in catering. I’d never been great at school and I wanted to study something practical that I could do with my hands. My course at KCC was the first thing in my life I had chosen for myself.

What are/were your aspirations?

At some point it occurred to me that I was in charge of my own life and I wanted to make enough money to buy a house for my mum. I knew it would involve hard work and I was eager to get stuck in.

Can you describe how KCC has helped you to achieve your ambitions/pursue your dream?

Applying myself fully to catering taught me some incredible lessons about hard work, teamwork and how different parts of a business work together.

Knowing what you have achieved what advice would you give to a young person attending KCC?

This stage is the best opportunity you will ever have to do something for yourself. You don’t have responsibilities like kids or a mortgage so you can take a risk and have a goal to go it alone. The time is now! Take the opportunity and do it. The worst thing that can happen is you end up back on the traditional route/corporate ladder.
