This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This practical qualification is a great stepping stone to launching your career in the industry.

You will develop your skills across a range of techniques such as cutting, colouring, perming, and hair styling.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College two days per week.

The course is delivered at our Main Campus, Huyton, L36 3SD.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • The art of dressing hair
  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Health and safety practice in the salon
  • Cutting women’s hair
  • Colouring and lightening hair
  • Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
  • The art of colouring hair
  • Working in the hair industry

How is it assessed?

You will be continually assessed throughout the course, completing all of your assessments on a commercial client (paying customer).

You will also build an evidence-based portfolio of work, to capture the practical skills and experience that you have developed on your course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should be able to demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for working in the industry and previous experience within a hairdressing salon is desirable but not essential.

What are the course fees?

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Students who complete this course are eligible to become a graduate State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council.

There are a range of career opportunities as a Junior Hairdresser/Stylist, within areas such as:

  • Commercial hair salons
  • Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Students will also have the opportunity to develop their skills further by undertaking more advanced qualifications, including the Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.

Alternatively, you may wish to explore other career opportunities within the industry such as beauty therapy, makeup artistry and nail technology.
