This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.
The mental health crisis is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, with 1 in 4 adults experiencing a mental health problem every year. This course is designed to provide a greater awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental well-being.
Throughout the course you will build a knowledge base that can be used in a variety of occupational roles, gaining an understanding of the skills needed to work in mental health services, the importance of addressing mental health problems, and how legislation and publicity are changing attitudes towards those seeking treatment.
This qualification can assist with a career path towards clinical psychology, mental health nursing or psychological wellbeing practice.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This hybrid learning course has flexible start dates throughout the year and can take up to 36 weeks to complete. However, the flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace.
What will I study?
The course will cover the following units:
- Understanding the context of mental health and well-being
- Promotion of mental health and well-being
- Mental health problems, associated issues and consequences
- Understanding mental ill health
- Working in mental health
How is it assessed?
The course is completed through an online platform and assessed through a series of online assessments.
Full tutor support will be provided throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone, email, Microsoft Teams and face-to-face drop in sessions at our St Helens Town Centre Campus.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
No previous qualifications are necessary.
As this course is completed through an online platform, access to a computer or laptop is recommended and some basic computer skills are required.
Students also have access to our campus libraries including quiet study spaces and computer suites.
What are the course fees?
The total cost of this course is £811. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.
If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.
