Lewis is working hard to transform his passion for art into a lifelong career in Graphic Design. Our Art and Design Alumni is making great progress on his degree at Nottingham Trent University.

Ever since a young age, Lewis has always had a strong passion for art; so knew this would be the career path for him. After completing his GCSEs at Cardinal Heenan High School, Lewis joined the level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design at Knowsley Community College.

The course was the perfect way of channelling Lewis’ interests; doing modules in ceramics, photography and product design. The variety that the course offered ultimately inspired his career choice to become a Graphic Designer.

Speaking to Lewis about his time on the course, he said, “I chose KCC because it had awesome facilities and great tutors who were really supported. I hope to work in a design studio. To have the title of being a Graphic Designer will be nothing short of a goal I have been reaching for, for such a long time.”
Upon completion, Lewis decided to build his skills further before embarking on university so then progressed onto the Foundation Art and Design course.

During his course, Lewis was exposed to a mixture of topics, which certainly got him thinking about which direction to take his creative career in. Enticed by the critical thinking of branding, it was this that sparked Lewis’ decision to study Graphic Design.

He added, “I particularly took a liking to branding and advertising during my course, which has inspired me to go on and study Graphic Design at University.”

Having always dreamt of going to University, Lewis jumped at the chance to further his education and with support from the College, he secured his place to study Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University. A very proud moment for Lewis.

Tutor, Andrew Foulds, commented: “Lewis was enthusiastic and open to new ideas, he was dedicated to Graphic Design and actively went out and visited galleries and made contact with professional Graphic Designers without the need for staff to push him on this. I firmly believe this is why he has achieved so much in a relatively short space of time.”

Lewis now continues to build his portfolio of work at University, whilst also growing his freelance client work.

To finish, Lewis said, “I would certainly recommend the course to others, it has been a massive turning point for me and my journey to University. If you have a love for the topic and are willing to put the work in, you will certainly succeed on this course.”
