Visitor Economy Week Showcases Opportunities for Students

Knowsley Community College and St Helens College recently participated in a variety of exciting activities and events in support of Visitor Economy Week 2019.

The annual celebration, which took place from 4th to the 8th February, brought together staff and students across a range of departments, to highlight some of the fantastic career opportunities that exist within the thriving tourism industry – an industry worth £4.5bn and supporting over 53,000 jobs.

To launch the week, catering and hospitality students attended Liverpool Football Club to prepare and serve breakfast canapés to guests including Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor, Steve Rotherham and key representatives and stakeholders within the visitor economy.

Our events team were also present during the Liverpool City Region Skills Show, welcoming schools from across the region, to demonstrate the range of options available to them after school.

The celebrations continued, with the College hosting an employer focused Skills Show, to showcase a wide range of career opportunities to students. Students had the opportunity to meet industry professionals and participate in a range of interactive activities. Employers exhibiting at the event included Greene Kind Brewery, Dermalogica, Haven, Airbus, Aintree Racecourse and L’Oréal.

Visitor Economy Week concluded with the annual celebratory dinner at The Richmond Hotel in Liverpool, where catering, hospitality and travel students played a key role in providing first-class customer service during the evening.

Travel students welcomed excited guests upon arrival while catering and hospitality students served a delicious three-course meal, including ham hock terrine, goat’s cheese curd, roast guinea fowl breast and rhubarb and white chocolate cheesecake.
