Students organise gig to raise money for Children’s Cancer Charity
May 14, 2015
Extended Diploma students at Knowsley Community College are hosting a music gig to raise funds for the charity, CHICS (Children’s Cancer Support Group).
With one of the music students holding CHICS close to their heart, the group chose to organise and host a gig, raising money for the charity and enabling them to continue to provide support and information for parents of children with cancer.
Students then set to work on sourcing a suitable venue, organising the AV and lighting, setting a budget and working out the logistics of the event – all skills that the students have developed during their course at KCC.
The music students won’t just be running the event; headline acts on the evening will be made up of all KCC music students.
The gig, taking place at District in Liverpool (formally The Picket) on the 20th May will also include a talk from a representative from the charity who will explain the great work that CHICS does to support parents.
Gordon Pemberton, a music lecturer at KCC, explains why he is proud of the students ‘Not only are the students demonstrating the diverse range of skills that they have acquired and are now confident with, they are putting these skills to good use and raising money for an extremely worthwhile charity.’
We hope you can join us for this fantastic fundraising evening, experiencing some great emerging acts. Doors open 6.45pm, with tickets are available on the door for £2.00 – all ticket sales go to directly to CHICS and there will also be a charity collection on the evening.
