Thomas currently works in traffic management but is hoping to use his new qualifications to gain his pilot’s license.
Having been an Air Cadet as a child, Thomas spent his early years in the sky and always dreamt of one day gaining his own license. This was the driving force behind his decision to return to College.
Speaking to Thomas, he said:
I’m so pleased with my results today. I was really nervous to come back to college as an adult, but it was definitely worth it. I didn’t enjoy English and maths at school but having come back as an adult with a different mindset, it was a completely different experience.
English Tutor, Cameron, said:
I’m so proud of Tom. He has worked tremendously hard and has showed such commitment and dedication, studying the evening course alongside working full time. His work ethic and drive to succeed has been a vital factor in achieving such fantastic results today.
Aspiring Illustrator, Ray, who has achieved a grade 4 in his GCSE Maths, is looking forward to progressing on to the next level of his Art and Design course at College next year and has grand plans to one day become a children’s book illustrator!
Ray said:
I’ve struggled in the past to find a learning environment that is right for me due to my autism, but I’ve loved coming to Knowsley Community College. It feels like such a safe space for me and my tutors have been incredible!
He added:
My favourite part is the smaller class sizes, the openness of the College and spending time in the peaceful art studios, which has made me feel like I can achieve my true potential.
Speaking to Ray about his ambitions to become an illustrator, he said:
I am so proud to be able to say I’ve had my own book published at the age of 16! My first book ‘Archie’s Grand Plan’ which will be released in Liverpool Library soon, was written and illustrated by myself, with thanks to my youth group, Comic Youth and publishers Marginal.

Adult students, Beth and Katie-Louise, collected their results together, with both of them achieving matching grade 5’s in GCSE English.
Beth who has always wanted to work with animals will now progress on to an Access to HE course in Land Based Science or Zoology with dreams of eventually working in ecology and conservation.
Katie has been busy raising her children and now wants to retrain as a Women’s Health Physiotherapist and gaining English was the first step in her new career journey.
They said:
We really enjoyed coming to class and speaking to other students about their goals and interests. The tutors were a huge part of the reason why we passed the course – the care they took to support us and keep us engaged was amazing.
