Knowsley Community College Are Pleased to Announce New Partnership with Saints Community Development Foundation

Knowsley Community College has teamed up with Saints Community Development Team to provide a Centre of Excellence for Rugby League in Merseyside.

The newfound partnership will provide the local and wider community access to healthy recreation facilities for playing rugby league and other sports providing a home for all development work in Liverpool.

The partnership brings not only great benefits to the community but also to staff and students at KCC who will have access to training and development sessions with Saints coaches giving them the opportunity to enhance their coaching skills and gain first-hand experience delivering sessions to local primary school children. In addition to coaching sessions, Saints are also planning multiple sporting events for local schools to get involved with over the coming months.

Steve Leonard, the Foundation’s Director, said: “This is a massive step in the development of Rugby League in Merseyside. We have found the ideal partners in Knowsley Community College who have shown all the way through our discussions, how enthusiastic they are about the partnership and the benefits it will bring.

“We have the privilege of using their fantastic facilities as our Centre of Excellence for Rugby League in Merseyside, with all development work in Liverpool being based in Knowsley Community College. We will in turn be providing coaching qualifications and training to both staff and students who will be given access to all aspects of the Foundation to develop their coaching / life skills.

“This will underpin the SkyTry work that we deliver in Liverpool and Merseyside and can only enhance our development of the game. We have seen a growing number of players from Liverpool and the surrounding areas on the England Talent Pathway with us and with this partnership we should see that number rise even more.”

Tammy Lennon, Section Manger for Sport at KCC, added, “As a College, our new partnership with Saints Community Development Foundation will allow us to promote wider community participation through recreational activities including rugby league and other sports, whilst also providing our students with the opportunity to receive quality training and development, from a team of friendly coaches.”
