KCC Student Shortlisted as Finalist in the National BTEC Awards
April 21, 2015
Heather Roberts, a current Business student at Knowsley Community College and candidate within The Pride of Knowsley campaign, has recently been announced as a finalist in the National BTEC Awards.
The BTEC Awards, now in their fifth year, are a platform to celebrate students, teachers, schools and colleges achievements in vocational learning. Heather was nominated for her outstanding commitment to Business within KCC and after a long shortlisting process, has been announced as a finalist for ‘Outstanding BTEC Business and Enterprise Student of the Year 2015’.
Claire Hughes, Heather’s lecturer at the College says, ‘ Heather’s drive, enthusiasm and work ethic has set a fantastic example to her peer group and this, coupled with her passion for Business, has made Heather a role model to all.’ She continues; ‘We are thrilled and extremely proud that she has been recognised for the outstanding work she is dedicated to’.
The BTEC Awards shortlisting follows on from many other fantastic achievements during Heather’s studies. Alongside her fellow students, Heather played an instrumental role in starting up a small business within the college, Shop 36; a refreshment shop selling products at discounted prices.
Heather also represented the College at The National Association of College and Universities Entrepreneurs’ event at the Google Campus where she and the team successfully pitched an idea to secure £5000 for the College’s Innovation fund application. An achievement for which she was then selected as a candidate for The Pride of Knowsley – a large scale campaign that celebrates the achievements of aspirational students and alumni of Knowsley Community College.
In addition, Heather has been active in various fund raising events held across College, including Fancy Dress, and creating Raffle Hampers for Children In Need and a Cake Sale for Comic Relief.
The 2015 National BTEC Awards Ceremony will be held in London on Tuesday 7 July 2015, when all of the 2015 winners will be announced and receive their prizes. The audience for this glittering event will include teachers, tutors, parents, work-based learning providers, employers, MPs, journalists and many more experts in vocational excellence.
