IAMT Students Take to the Tunnels

Institute of Advanced Manufacturing and Technology students have been exploring Liverpool with trips to the Mersey Tunnel, on a unique behind the scenes tour of the famous Queensway Mersey Tunnel.
As well as learning about the construction of the tunnel in the early 20th century, they visited the original control room, saw giant ventilation fans in action, watched the traffic pass through the tunnel and experienced Georges Dock Building – an engineering masterpiece.
Students had a great time learning the history of the tunnels and seeing first hand the work that went into construction. A fantastic opportunity for students to get an idea of career prospects, with one student commenting that he would like to apply to be an apprentice there.
