College supports Community with Christmas Foodbank Appeal

Staff and students at Knowsley Community College have come together to support the community this Christmas by donating much-needed food and toy donations to the Knowsley Foodbank, as part of the Big Help Project.

Beauty and Makeup Tutors, Lisa Linnell and Kathryn Burns started the collection knowing how difficult Christmas will be for many families this year due to the continuing impact of Covid-19.

Beauty Tutor, Lisa Linnell, said, “We really wanted to do our part for our local community to support where we could; no family should have to struggle, at any time of the year.”

The Trussell Trust, a foundation which supports a network of food banks across the UK, distributed 1.2 emergency food parcels to individuals and families in crisis, from the 1st April – 30th September 2020, with the Northwest being the second-highest receivers in the UK.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many people and with the added pressures of Covid-19 now affecting over 40,000 families within the local area, the Knowsley Foodbank distributes emergency food parcels across the Knowsley borough to those in need.

Lisa said, “We have been overwhelmed with the support and generosity from staff and students, and even family members, who donated money which enabled us to buy and donate food items. Donations arrived daily and before we knew it, we had hundreds of items!”

A massive thank you to staff, students, friends and family members who made a donation!
