This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.
This nationally recognised qualification introduces learners to the fundamentals of coding, software development practices, and coding terminology, providing a foundation for further study or entry into IT and digital sectors.
Course Start Date and Duration
This course starts in January and will take 20 weeks to complete.
This course will take place at our Main Campus, Main Campus, Stockbridge Lane, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.
What will I study?
During this course you will study the following topics:
- The principles of coding
- Terminology used in coding
- Coding design principles
- The processes and practice of coding
- The importance of communication in coding projects
- Project management and DevOps processes
Assessment Methods
The course is completed through an online platform and assessed through a series of online assessments.
Full tutor support will be provided throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone, email, Microsoft Teams and face-to-face sessions at our Knowsley Main Campus.
On completion you will receive a nationally recognised qualification, awarded by NCFE.
Entry Requirements
No previous qualifications are necessary. However, as this course is completed through an online platform, access to a computer or laptop is recommended and some basic computer skills are required.
Students also have access to our campus libraries including quiet study spaces and computer suites.
Course Cost
The total cost of this course is £1,302. Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding. Our hybrid learning courses may be free to UK residents who live in the Liverpool or Greater Manchester City Region. Those who live in devolved combined authorities outside Liverpool and Greater Manchester will not be eligible for course funding.
The College will carry out a simple funding assessment to check eligibility.
Please note, any learner who has received funding for the course and does not successfully complete will be liable to pay for the course fees.

This course provides fantastic progression on to higher level courses, depending on your career aims, such as Access to Higher Education Computing Diploma or HND in Digital Technologies (Cyber Security).
