Media is constantly changing as audiences today have access to a huge number of channels that enable us to receive news, advertising and entertainment. With this you will study a wide range of media aspects which include: • Media in context • Language • Representation • Media industries • Audiences In addition, you will explore various media texts from television and print to web and film, developing your understanding of the media and its importance in the world today. You will have the opportunity to produce a media project using industry standard equipment, which may be a print production (magazine publication, advertising campaign) or a video production (film trailer, music video). You will be assessed by a combination of examinations at the end of year 13 and practical assessments. “ Media has dominated the world, from the way we access vital information to the way we spend our time. Media is used in almost everything we do. Learn about media and master skills in a range of aspects that have such an influence in our lives. ” What will I study? How is it assessed? What can I go on to do once I have completed this? An A level in Media Studies will create a broad range of career opportunities. You may choose to progress on to University Centre St Helens, studying FdSc Media Production or apply to other universities. This could lead to a variety of career opportunities in TV, film, journalism, marketing or the design industries. Additional Information You will not be expected to buy any media equipment for this A level as Knowsley Community College will provide this.
