You will be assessed by examinations at the end of year 13. “ The ideas that influence us, the events that mould us and the laws that bind us – that is the essence of what politics is about. ” What will I study? How is it assessed? What can I go on to do once I have completed this? You should have at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. There is no requirement to have studied a subject relating to politics at GCSE level. Entry Requirements Throughout this A level, you will focus on the politics of modern Britain, the USA and the ideologies which have shaped them. You will cover the following themes: • The structure of the British and US political systems and where the balance of power lies • The nature of the UK and US constitutions and the pressures upon them • Comparing the political powers of the US President and UK Prime Minister • How political parties and pressure groups operate • The development of political ideologies and ideas • How ideologies have shaped western society • Why ideologies and civilizations collide This is excellent preparation for a wide variety of degrees, including both the BA (Hons) in Criminal Justice and BA (Hons) in Social Policy, Health and Housing at University Centre St Helens, both of which are validated by University of Chester.
