You will be assessed by examinations at the end of year 13 which will assess both your source analysis skills and your broader essay writing ability. You will also undertake a historical investigation worth 20% of your overall A level. “ History is filled with the fascinating, the unbelievable and the unthinkable. You’ll look back at some of the major events and personalities that have shaped the world we know today. ” What will I study? How is it assessed? What can I go on to do once I have completed this? You should have at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. There is no requirement to have studied a subject relating to history at GCSE level. Entry Requirements Over the course of this A level, you will focus on three separate periods of history, looking at Britain primarily but also the USA. You will cover the following units: • The making of modern Britain: Britain 1951 - 2007 • The making of a superpower: USA 1865 - 1975 • The industrial revolution in Britain Studying A level History demonstrates to employers and universities that you have the ability to make decisions based on evidence, are open minded and interested in worldwide events. You will also develop transferable skills such as organisation, analytical thinking and evaluation. A level History is excellent preparation for a wide variety of degrees from history and politics to sociology and law.
