You will be assessed by examinations at the end of year 13. “ It’s easy to open a business but it’s an art to keep it open. Come and join us to understand the challenges that all businesses face in an ever- changing world - and what makes some thrive whilst many others collapse. ” What will I study? How is it assessed? What can I go on to do once I have completed this? You may choose to continue your studies at degree level with other universities or undertake the HND in Business at University Centre St Helens. You might even decide to look for a higher apprenticeship, enabling you to earn some money whilst continuing your studies. The business sector is broad and has plenty of career opportunities across a variety of industries from finance, IT and healthcare to marketing, retail and hospitality. You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths. Entry Requirements You will study the following: • Issues involved with creating a business start-up, such as research, planning, and the factors that determine success • How established businesses might improve their effectiveness • Larger businesses which may be trading in international markets, and how managers might measure the performance of the business • How businesses manage change successfully You will be expected to be aware of current affairs which have an effect on business. This will enable you to put what you are learning into context. You may also have the opportunity to attend an annual business conference in Paris to gain first-hand insight of what it takes to successfully run a global enterprise. 43 A LEVEL BUSINESS
