You will study the following: • Acquire skills, knowledge and understanding as well as the language needed to create, develop and present high quality artwork • Explore a range of techniques, materials and processes such as; painting, printmaking, mixed media, digital photography, collage, 3D and drawing using pastels, charcoal, inks, watercolour, oil and acrylic paint • Understand the many different art and design methods and principles • Learn how to use primary and secondary sources • Understand how creative aspects influence each other • Explore working methods linked to industry practice You will be assessed by examinations at the end of year 13 and assessments of your practical skills across year 12 and 13. “ A level Art and Design encourages independent thought. It can give you a breadth of understanding about yourself and the wider world. You will work in specialist creative spaces guided by tutors who are passionate about helping you develop as an artist. ” What will I study? How is it assessed? What can I go on to do once I have completed this? You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 4 in English and maths. You should have excelled in GCSE art and you will need to have a portfolio of previous work. Entry Requirements The creative industries offer an enormous amount of exciting and varied career paths. You may wish to progress on to degree level study, with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at University Centre St Helens, validated by prestigious university partner, University of Chester. Alternatively, you could choose from a wide variety of degrees at other universities such as illustration, photography or fashion and textile design. 39 A LEVEL ART AND DESIGN
