This course will take your knowledge to the next level, enabling you to prepare and develop a proposal in response to an industry brief using advanced practical, critical and reflective skills.

Based in our £70,000 film studio, equipped with the latest black magic cameras, director’s gallery and green screen, you will develop your practical skills, alongside gaining an understanding of the industry, job roles and higher education routes.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take two years to complete.

This course will take place at our Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.

What will I study?

You will study three units:

  • Personal Progression – You will develop an understanding of industry, employment roles and higher education routes and prepare progression materials relevant to your personal aims.
  • Creative Industry Response – You will develop advanced practical, critical and reflective skills to plan, prepare and develop a proposal for a response to an industry-relevant brief and carry it out from concept to resolution.
  • Critical Self-appraisal (optional level 4 unit)

How is it assessed?

This course is assessed internally by highly experienced and skilled creative media tutors, through a practical portfolio of work accompanied by regular academic lessons and assignments. There are no formal exams.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and/or maths, and have successfully completed the level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Practice.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to FdSc Media Production at University Centre St Helens, approved by university partner, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

Alternatively, you may choose to study a different degree at another university or secure employment in the industry.
