During this course, you will develop your skills in makeup applications, photographic makeup while assisting with makeup.

Unleash your creativity and create intricate face and body painting and nail art, whilst researching and developing different styles and trends for the industry and theatre.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Main Campus, Huyton, Liverpool, L36 3SD.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • The art of photographic makeup
  • Following health and safety practice in the salon
  • Creating an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • Applying makeup
  • Instruction on makeup application
  • Providing nail art
  • Body art design
  • Shaping and colouring eyebrows

You’ll create intricate makeup and hair designs and as part of enrichment, you will learn how to fake bruises, cuts and scratches for TV and film, and how to apply makeup for camera. You’ll even have the opportunity to explore nail art and body art design.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed throughout the course by a combination of practical assessments, written assignments, end of module exams and portfolio building.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have three GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your course when you join us.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2025), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have completed this course, you will have developed the skills, experience and knowledge neccessary to enter the industry as a Beauty Receptionist, Makeup Consultant, Sales Representative or become self-employed.

Additional Information

As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
