The Work Skills programme is designed to support students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to enable them to progress into employment or progress to a higher level course.
Tutors will work with the students to help develop their transferable skills such as problem solving, communication and teamwork. Alongside this they will complete further learning and employment qualifications including English and maths.
During their time on the course students will also have the opportunity to attend ‘vocational tasters’ within other areas of the College to prepare them for future study and work experience opportunities.
Each student will have a personal tutor with specialist SEND knowledge who is responsible for all aspects of their study programme and will support them to make progress towards outcomes through an individualised approach.
The pathway intentions are for students to:
- Develop communication skills
- Develop practical English and maths skills
- Work towards individualised goals
- Develop core independent living skills
- Develop healthy lifestyles choices
- Become better equipped to make informed choices about their lives
The pathway includes:
- Open Awards SFLE units to support vocational opportunities at E3 or L1
- RARPA framework to support EHCP outcomes and personal development
- English and maths qualifications
- Internal or external work experience opportunities
- Tutorial sessions
- PHSE
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.
What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
Transition will be determined annually through the EHCP Annual Review process, reflecting the individual students progress made within the academic year, level achieved and college attendance. Progress routes could include further education or transition to a non-educational destination
