This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.
Autism presents in many ways, and the support needs of each individual are unique. This course will teach you about a range of therapeutic interventions and support available to autistic individuals and their families.
In addition, you will learn about conditions that commonly co-occur with autism and the treatment options available. You will cover the roles and responsibilities relating to safeguarding, and the ways you can assist autistic individuals to lead fulfilling lives.
This course is particularly suited for a career in learning mentorship, youth work or Special Educational Needs teaching assistance.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and can take up to 36 weeks to complete. However, the flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace.
What will I study?
The course will cover the following units:
- Autism in context
- Positive behavioural support for autistic individuals
- Support and management of transitions for autistic individuals
- Therapeutic interventions and support available for autistic individuals and co-occurring conditions
- Safeguarding and resilience in autism
How is it assessed?
This is an online learning course which is assessed through a series of online assessments.
Full tutor support will be provided by the College throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone, email and Microsoft Teams.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
There are no formal entry requirements. However, it would be an advantage if you have already achieved a level 2 qualification in understanding autism.
As this course is completed online, some basic computer skills are required.
What are the course fees?
The total cost of this course is £1,587.60.
If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.
