This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

The United Kingdom is home to approximately 850,000 individuals who are living with dementia. Unfortunately, this number is projected to increase significantly over the next few years, with estimates indicating that it will surpass one million by the year 2025.

To combat this growing issue, this course aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of dementia and its effects. You will understand the various types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis, and the crucial role that communication, interaction, and inclusion play in the provision of effective dementia care and support.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and can take up to 36 weeks to complete. However, the flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace.

What will I study?

The course will cover the following units:

  • Understanding dementia
  • How person-centred approaches are used to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support
  • How to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
  • The administration of medication and well-being of individuals with dementia

How is it assessed?

This is an online learning course which is assessed through a series of online assessments.

Full tutor support will be provided by the College throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone, email and Microsoft Teams.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. However, it would be an advantage if you have already achieved a level 2 qualification in dementia care.

As this course is completed online, some basic computer skills are required.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £1,545.60.

If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.
