BTEC Diploma in Public Services (QCF) - L2

Course Description
This course is the ideal opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience related to the Police, Fire Service, Army, Navy, Prison Service or other uniformed service. It is also appropriate for students interested in a career in private security. Lessons are a mix of practical and theory sessions, which will prepare you for the challenges and demands of public service. As a result, you will improve your time management, organisation, interpersonal, team-building and leadership skills.

Entry Requirements
GCSE resits: Minimum 4 Grade Ds one of which must be English and/or Maths Pass in relevant Level 1 Vocational Qualification and overall Merit for BTEC Courses and working at Key Skills/Functional Skills Level 1 English (Maths and IT may be needed)

Modules Studied:

  • Public Services Fitness looks at the fitness requirements for entry into the public services and learners will look at how to develop their own fitness and lifestyle
  • The Uniformed Public Services Employment unit looks at what the services actually do and how they gain employment within them
  • Public Service Skills looks at the relevant skill set for working within the services
  • Adventurous Activities and Teamwork looks at why the public services use outdoor pursuits and its role within teamwork
  • Crime and its Effects on Society looks at how the public services handle crime and how society works with offenders
  • Driving and its Relationship to the Public Services looks at why it is important to drive in the uniformed services, how to pass the test and how to drive legally

Attendance Modes: Day

Assessment: Assessment will take the form of a range of assignments. These will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Key Skills will be assessed by three short tests and a portfolio of evidence.

Progression Routes: Army Soldier, Youth Worker, Customs and Excise Officer, Firefighter, Royal Navy, Police Officer, Prison Officer, Royal Air Force (RAF) or progress on to a Level 3 Sport and Public Services Course.
