Course Description
The primary aim of this course is to gain the relevant qualifications and experience to progress on to the Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design. This leads to progression into Higher Education in all the main specialist areas of study.Students not wishing to progress will leave with a package of A Levels which will qualify them for entry into Higher Education or employment.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, usually including English and Maths.
Modules Studied:
- Graphics: An option in the First year. You choose between this and Textiles.
- Textiles: An option in the First Year. You choose between this and Graphic Design.
- Fine Art: Mandatory. All students do Fine Art for its overiding emphasis on drawing and printmaking.
- Critical Studies: Mandatory in the First Year. All students need to be able to contextualise their work through writing.
- 3D: Mandatory in the Second Year. An understanding of 3D is deemed necessary to fully appreciate your options at University.
- Photography: Mandatory in the Second Year. Photography is an essential skill in all aspects of Art and Design.

Assessment: Assessment is through a mixture of continuous assessment, examination, course work, portfolio and an external examamination.
Progression Routes: Most students take the Diploma in Foundation Studies course at KCC after their Advanced course. This prepares you for University study in all of the main areas of practice. 100% of applications to Art & Design courses were successful last year.
