Course Description
This is an introductory award which is compulsory for all new teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector who do not currently have a recognised teaching qualification. It is also for anyone else who wishes to gain an initial award in teaching/training. It is accredited through City & Guilds and can be taken at either Level 3 or 4. It is an introduction to teaching which will equip teachers with the necessary skills to approach the theory and practice of teaching.
Entry Requirements
Level 2 skills/craft qual eg NVQ 2 or relevant work experience. Aptitude test and interview. Eng Language GCSE grade C or equivalent eg Key Skills/Functional Skills Eng L2. Preferably Maths GCSE at grade D or above or Key Skills/Functional Skills Maths L1
Modules Studied:
- Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries in relation to teaching
- Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
- Demonstrate session planning skills
- Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
- Understand different assessment methods and the need for record-keeping

Attendance Modes: Day/Eve
Assessment: Four assignments will need to be completed; two to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of teaching practice, one to demonstrate appropriate planning & teaching skills (30minute teaching session will be delivered by all), & one to demonstrate evaluation skills.
Progression Routes: The qualification provides an entry point and introduction for those new to teaching. It provides progression to the Certificate or Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
