Freedom of Information Act publication scheme

Freedom of Information Act (FoIA)

The Freedom of Information Act deals with access to official information and gives individuals or organisations the right to request information from any public authority. The Freedom of Information Act gives the right to request information held by public authorities, companies wholly owned by public authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and non-devolved public bodies in Scotland.

Model publication scheme 2009

As a result of the Publication Scheme Development and Maintenance Initiative the ICO has introduced a model publication scheme that all public sector organisations should adopt from 1 January 2009. The ICO have said “We expect authorities to ensure that the information can be easily identified and accessed by the general public”, Knowsley Community College is more than happy to comply with.

We would expect provide under the FoIA all information we hold unless:

  • The information is exempt under one of the FOI exemptions or Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) exceptions, or its release is prohibited under another statute;
  • The information is archived, out of date or otherwise inaccessible; or,
  • It would be impractical or resource-intensive to prepare the material for routine release We do not hold the information
