There are a lot of questions to be answered and information to be considered before enrolling at college. Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions and answers.
How is college different from high school?
There are no bells, no uniforms, no unnecessary rules. There is a mutual respect between staff and students that creates a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Students are treated like adults.
Will my qualification be enough to get me into University?
Depending on what course you choose and how well you do, there is nothing to stop your progression on to University. Talk to your Adviser about your plans and they will be able to give you the best advice. There are also Higher Education options available should you decide you want to continue with your studies at the College.
Can I change my course if I don't like it?
Yes, you will have the option in the first few weeks of classes starting to change courses. Your Personal Tutor will help guide you through the transition.
Will it cost me anything to study?
If you're under 18, you can study at College for free. You are eligible to apply for an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA), which will cover tuition, examination and equipment costs. Additional funding may also be available.
What are Key Skills and why do I need them?
Like general IT know how, basic computing and maths, practical ability in reading and writing, these are Key Skills which are considered important to your future development at university or in the workplace.
What help is available for students with learning difficulties and disabilities?
The College has an excellent support system for learners with disabilities or difficulties. An interview with Student Services staff will help to identify the right support for you.
