The Collegiate (14-19)

The College is very proud of its role within the Knowsley 14-19 Collegiate. An Award Ceremony was held at 7.30 on 8/04/08 at Knowsley Community College in recognition of the College achieving the LSC and AoC Award for 14 – 19 Collaboration, thanks to its excellent track record of working with local schools and a range of organisations in the region.

For the past seven years the College has been involved in an innovative programme delivered through the 14 – 19 Knowsley Collegiate. This partnership was formed to better meet the needs of individual learners by providing more choice and high quality provision. The Collegiate is made up of key partners across the borough, including schools, the local authority, Connexions, training providers, HE institutions, and employers such as Jaguar Land Rover. Through working closely with local schools, the College has been able to deliver a broader curriculum offer that complements the GCSE curriculum available in schools. Pupils attend the College for one day or two half days per week for two years, and have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications.

John Korzeniewski, North West Regional Director of the LSC, presented the award to Frank Gill, Principal of Knowsley Community College, who made several references to the importance of the contributions that numerous partners had made to the success of the Collaboration. John Korzeniewski summed up his thoughts on the award: “The prize is for the College’s leadership of an innovative partnership with schools, employers, and the local authority, that is having a real and sustained impact on the lives of young people as they progress into employment or further learning. Receiving the LSC Award for 14 – 19 Collaboration is deserved recognition for all those at Knowsley Community College who have built up the excellent working relationships that the College has with its partners. As the sponsor of this award we understand the value of partnership working in providing the best teaching and learning resources for young people. Knowsley Community College’s demonstration of successful collaborative working is an excellent example to other colleges across the country.”

“The Collegiate Vocational Skills Centre provides high quality and well-resourced accommodation for pupils aged 14-16. Significant thought has gone into the design of the building, both in terms of layout and size of rooms. The result is accommodation that encourages students to value the opportunities it provides” Ofsted Inspection Report
