Happy Birthday KCCLive!
KCCLive 99.8FM, the newest community radio station on Merseyside, celebrated their first year anniversary as an FM station, with a BAFTAs style awards ceremony on Wednesday, 9th June. The event recognised the hard work that staff and volunteers have put in over the last year to make the station a success in the local community.
The KCCLive crew gathered at Expressions restaurant, Knowsley Community College, and were presented with awards ranging from Best Production to Funniest Mess-up. Special mention goes to the winners of the ‘Bridging the Gap’ award. This is a group of talk show presenters who work to consistently meet the station’s social outreach objectives, discussing sometimes very difficult subject areas which are relevant to the young listeners of the station.
Presenter Matt Thomas also won the ‘Eye Award’ for his crazy idea of running 99.8 miles to raise money for Sport Relief! This simple idea snowballed into an outside broadcast involving members of the community, Knowsley Community College students, volunteers & local businesses. Community spirit was definitely in the air that day which sums up what the station is all about and this led to Matt receiving the award.
Phil Smith, Station Manager, commented: “The awards to celebrate our first year anniversary went off without a hitch and a great time was had by all. It was an excellent way to not only show our appreciation for all the hard work our volunteers have put in but also to highlight the high standard of talent we have here at KCCLive.” The station now looks forward to their next year of broadcasts, community events and welcoming in new listeners and volunteers.
