Choosing a Sixth Form Course
AS/A LEVEL COURSES
All A Levels are two year courses. With successful completion of the required modules in the first year, you will achieve an AS (Advanced Subsidiary) award, a qualification in its own right.
In the second year the course is called an A2 qualification. An AS plus an A2 course is an A Level qualification.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA (LEVEL 3)
The Level 3 Advanced Diploma courses allow students to learn through theory and practice. So as well as finding out about things from books and people, you will get to apply this knowledge by doing things in a practical environment.
BTEC LEVEL 3 DIPLOMAS
BTEC Level 3 courses are recognised by employers and universities as being of equal value to A Levels. These courses often involve more practical than theory-based learning, and focus on a specific career-related area. Studied over two years, these courses seek to develop specific skills, knowledge and personal qualities, which are valued highly by employers and applicable to related degree level courses at university.
BTEC LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA
These are intermediate or Level 2 courses, which are equivalent to four GCSEs Grade A*-C. There is no formal entry requirement for these courses, however students must display a willingness to learn and broaden their Level 2 (GCSE) achievement. Level 2 courses are a full-time programme, so students will not be expected to study any additional subjects.
GCSEs
GCSEs are by definition the General Certificate of Secondary Education. They are Level 2 qualifications, which are offered at Roby Sixth form in a variety of subjects. A full-time GCSE course comprises four subjects.
All Sixth Form students have access to a jam-packed Enrichment programme to supplement their studies
