What can I study?
Vocational Courses
The College offers hundreds of vocational courses at all levels. From Hair and Beauty, Travel and Tourism, to Motor Vehicle and Interior Design, we are sure that we will have the right course for you. The majority of vocational courses are studied at the Kirkby Centre with the exception of Hospitality, Travel and Tourism and Hair and Beauty which are studied at the Roby Centre
NVQ
stands for national vocational qualification. These are available from Level 1 up to Level 4, and are work-based to further your skills in a specific career or industry.
Foundation Learning (FL)
is a national programme for learners aged between 16 and 19 who are working at Entry Level or Level 1.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma
, is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. It is designed to give students a basic understanding of a subject and practical skills for work or continued study.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
, is recognised by employers and universities as being of equal value to A Levels. These are more practical than classroom-based learning and focus on a specific career-related area.
Professional Qualifications
- from managerial and accounting to teaching qualifications, the College offers Level 4 and 5 courses to improve your skills within the work place onto a more professional level, consequently helping you improve your career prospects.
Supported Learning
– If you need to develop your personal, social and employability skills, then Pre-Foundation courses may be for you. We provide courses which support individuals and enable them to become more independent and involved in their community.

Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships
provide an important opportunity to ‘earn and learn’ in a wide range of occupations and sectors. Apprenticeships give you the chance to develop skills, experience and qualifications. They also help meet the skills needs of businesses and the economy.
Apprentices can start at any time during the year. Apprenticeships offered by the College include a Level 2 Apprenticeship (equivalent to five GCSE passes), a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship (equivalent to two A Level passes) and a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship – AAT only - (equivalent to a Degree level qualification).
All Knowsley Community College students have access to a packed enrichment programme to supplement their studies.
