Foundation Learning
Foundation Learning (FL) is a national programme for young people aged between 16 and 19 who are working at Entry Level or Level 1. There are two different programmes of study available at Knowsley Community College and we also work closely with a small number of local training providers to deliver Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning - Vocational Courses
  • Qualifications from the QCF at Entry Level and Level 1
  • Offered in all vocational areas of the college
  • Usually 36 week programme for young people starting in September
  • Weekly hours will depend on the vocational area - average 14 hpw
  • Each programme will include:
    • Vocational Qualifications from the QCF
    • Personal and Social Development
    • Functional Skills
    • A wide range of enrichment and fun activities
    • Careers information, advice and guidance
    • Progression routes to further learning, employment and to apprenticeships

Foundation Learning - ‘Welcome to Learning’
Some young people may be undecided about their future and may benefit from joining ‘Welcome to Learning’. Welcome to Learning learners are given the opportunity to try a range of vocational tasters whilst improving their maths or English and developing their personal and social skills and qualities.

Welcome to Learning is a ‘non-accredited’ programme that usually lasts about 10 weeks and includes a range of fun activities and all the usual benefits enjoyed by all learners studying at the college. All learners have an Individual Learning Plan and progression is usually into one of the Foundation Learning Vocational Courses offered at the college
